More About Music Therapy
What is music therapy?
Music therapy is often misunderstood.
It isn't simply listening to music, learning an instrument, or performing. It is an allied health profession where Registered Music Therapists intentionally use music within a therapeutic relationship to support health and wellbeing.
Music therapy is supported by a growing body of research across healthcare, including areas such as:
Child development and disability
Dementia care
Mental health
Neurological rehabilitation
Pain and symptom management
Palliative care
Every person's relationship with music is unique, so therapy is tailored to their individual strengths, needs and goals.
Whether someone communicates through words, movement, music, or simply being present, music therapy begins with meeting them where they are.
I'd love to hear: What surprised you most about music therapy?
